Shirebears - Toni Hall & Gary Yates
Based in Derbyshire
We got into Newfoundlands in 2008 when we bought our first Newfie girl named Anoushka. This changed our lives forever and for the better. We wanted her for showing and a breeding plan but double elbow dysplasia stopped us going any further with both. She taught us a lot and especially the importance of health testing. Anoushka came from parents with good scores but it does sometimes still happen. Anoushka was the start of a journey we are still on.
We have had several Newfoundlands since, importing them from Hungary; Bomberland kennel, from Austria; For Shadow's Eternity kennel, from Spain; Jacshiva kennel and from Poland; Daybreaker's kennel. We import to bring fresh bloodlines into the UK and some nice quality too. Our dogs are fully health tested for breeding with the documentation to prove this.
Our Newfs live within our home so they are family, not just dogs. They all have different personalities which makes for a fun household. We have shown in the past and Ravena, our For Shadow's Eternity girl, won a Reserve in her class at Crufts. Issimo, our Hungarian girl, did very well in the show ring.
Our affix is taken from living within a "Shire". Up and down the UK, the majority of us live within a Shire so a Shirebear will be at home wherever they are.
When we plan to breed it is to increase our family and the parents are carefully chosen. All Shirebear puppies have Kennel Club registrations with the endorsements relating to breeding and export. A lifetime of support and advice will always be at hand for owners of our Shirebears.
There is a lot of information on our website about health and wellbeing of the breed so please do visit for further reading, advice and useful links. There is also a contacts page should you wish to get in touch.
