Shirebears - Toni Hall & Gary Yates
Based in Derbyshire
We had our first Newfoundland in 2008 when we bought our Newfie girl named Anoushka. She changed our lives forever and for the better. We wanted her for showing and a breeding plan but double elbow dysplasia stopped us going any further with both. She taught us a lot and especially the importance of health testing from both parents. Anoushka came from parents with good scores but it does sometimes still happen. Anoushka was the start of a journey we are still on. We currently share our lives with seven girls and co-own our home bred boy Geoffrey.
We have had several Newfoundlands over the years, importing them from Hungary; Bomberland kennel, from Austria; For Shadow's Eternity kennel, two from Spain; Jacshiva kennel, from Poland; Daybreaker's kennel and our Landseer addition from Beautiful Great Dane in Poland. We import to bring fresh bloodlines into the UK and some nice quality too. We have used overseas dogs at stud to bring some wonderful puppies into the World. Our Newfoundlands are fully health tested for breeding with the documentation to prove this. We own and breed all three standard colours which are Black, Landseer and Brown. Our dogs can be found on our website alongside plenty of reading about the breed including the breed standard, health, grooming links, health testing links as well as who we are and a gallery of our dogs. You will also find links to the Pet Blood bank who we support.
Our Newfs live within our home so they are family, not just dogs. They all have different personalities which makes for a fun household. We have shown in the past and Ravena, our For Shadow's Eternity girl, won a Reserve in her class at Crufts. Issimo, our Hungarian girl, did very well in the show ring. Our dogs that have gone to show homes are doing well in the ring, being placed first at Championship shows and qualifying for Crufts each year. Each year we have gained places in our classes at Crufts and gaining a first place in 2024.
Our affix is taken from living within a "Shire" up and down the UK, the majority of us live within a Shire so a Shirebear will be at home wherever they are.
When we do breed, the parents are carefully chosen. All Shirebear puppies have Kennel Club registrations with the endorsements relating to breeding and export. A lifetime of support and advice will always be at hand for owners of our puppies. Contract, puppy packs and food all come with your puppy as standard as well as four weeks free insurance with Pet Plan.
